Big Follow-up Tomorrow

I’ve been having a good stretch of days lately.  Fatigue gets me a little mid afternoon, but I’m wearing out the treadmills and ellipticals and aiming for that not so distant finish line. I have been getting up pretty early to retrain the internal clock.  I know I am ahead of what I expected at five weeks.  I am hoping to get back to work, probably half days to start, sooner than planned.

Tomorrow is my first follow up with Dr. Markowitz. I am hoping for driving privileges to be reinstated and my Coumadin to be discontinued. I am sure the kids will be disappointed when I go back to work, but I am getting a bit anxious to return.  I just can’t sit around for another month.

My only hurdles that I see at this point are the small amount of fatigue and weakness I get later in the day.  I am starting some yoga with Kathy this week so we’ll see if that helps with both my physical and emotional recovery. I remain positive that some day in the near future I will resemble the Mike I knew back in November, with an obviously healthier heart. Thanks to all the helpful friends that continue to provide meals for my family.   It certainly has made things a lot easier on Kathy and I. Peace.

  1. Michael,

So good to see this string of positive posts. I love reading all of your posts, but especially lately. You are amazing! Keep it up and good luck tomorrow. I hope your appointment with Dr. Markowitz goes well. I’m curious to hear his take on your progress. No doubt he will be impressed.

I heard you gave Hugh a buzz. I tried cutting Wyatt’s hair the other day and pretty much botched it. Maybe I should take him down to the barber and follow Hugh’s lead.

Fiona Mae rode a bike today for the first time sans training wheels. Oh the thrills of two wheels! True freedom! Have you started biking yet on a stationary? I’m impressed with all of your walking/running on the treadmill. Awesome. I actually ran twice this past week and did yoga once. More than I’ve done in years. New year’s resolution, I guess. But I thought of you the whole time I was running. Did you know that you were the one who got me into running all those years ago? I can still remember you taking me on my first valley run. You literally ran circles around me, but that 5 mile course became a regular routine for me and the location for the original t&k Fun Run 2000. I walked/ran a part of it when I was home in November. Somehow I quit running altogether when I moved to this mile-high altitude, but 2012 is my year to get it back. It helps to be doing it with you as an inspiration. Thank you!

Keep on, Michael. You’re doing it. You’re winning this race!

  2. I am very happy that today went well; from your posts, I knew it would. It was also great to see you and Kathy. You both look and sound wonderful. Life is returning to a new normal and it seems that “normal” will be even better than the old. Well done; it has been a great joy to watch your amazing recovery.

  3. Mike – good report. We are having fun in Steamboat, will be back next week. When do you want to go hit golf balls?
