Day 4 , 6am

It was my best night yet. Some rough spots, but did get a few hours of deep sleep. Even had a good dream playin with the kids on a beach somewhere. My spirits are good this morning. Kathy still here, sleeping. Facetimed with the kids last night, that was great. My iPod is really helping. Listening to music at 3am when you can’t sleeps very soothing. Plan on working harder today to get more laps in. First sponge bath today, I think I am getting ripe. Swallowing still uncomfortable but everyday is better. Again, the thoughts and prayers and comments are really motivating. Even if it seems simple, it truly helps; keep them coming. More later.

  1. Maybe that beach was Hilton Head. 🙂 So glad you had a good night and are continuing to make huge progress. We can’t wait to see you walking around in person!

  2. Just wanted to let you know so many patients have been calling and asking how you are doing. So happy to give them such good news! They all send their prayers and well wishes. Tell Kathy we are all thinking about her and know how hard this is on her, too. I’m sure it was great to see the kids! In a few more days you will get to spend much more time with them. There probably would have never been another opportunity to spend 6 uninterrupted weeks with your family. (That’s one way to think positive!)

    • Hey Mike! Glad to hear your feeling better everyday and were able to string together a couple of solid hours of sleep. The good news is the worst part is over and everyday you’ll be getting stronger and feeling better and the sooner you’ll be able to hug the kids! Hang in there!!!!!

  3. Great updates! Sorry to hear about the poor blueberry pancakes. I recommend a chicken quesadilla and 10 laps today.

  4. We’ve been following your blog and are so pleased with your progress. I remember talking to you @ UH when Christine was there – about your heart murmur. God truly works in amazing ways! Hope to see you soon! Keep up the hard work and the good spirits! Know that you are in our prayers, Mike.

  5. Mike, Glad to see such progress, so soon. I’m really enjoying following your progress. I’d love to hear more about your interface with technology as you grow stronger. Our thoughts and prayers continue from snowy northwest Ohio

  6. Michael, So happy to see your post. Sounds like you’re moving in the right direction. And I think Erika is correct – the beach you dreamed of was Hilton Head. While we were in Cleveland last week, we spent an afternoon at Rocky River Beach — which I so love. It was a beautiful day. But Wyatt wanted to know why we couldn’t go to “the beach with all the cousins… the one where we could walk out into the big waves.” He’s dreaming of Hilton Head, too. Let’s do it again! That truly was our best vacation yet. Keep on! xo, katie

  7. michael–so happy to hear about your progress; it is awesome! keep up the good work–you will be home in no time with your beautiful family! Give our love to Kathy, also–thinking of you all this morning and sending positive energy your way!

  8. Mike. So many sponge bath jokes… So many people reading this…anyway. You sound a lot better! Its a huge relief for those of us pulling for you. I look forward to playing you at pool as soon as your home. I figure nows my best chance at winning! Later!

  9. Can’t believe how great you are doing!!! Everyone here at the WSC is asking how you are !! Soooooo, how was that sponge bath???? Did poor Kathy have to do it or was it some big man that came in and washed you up?? hahaha!!! At least you don’t smell, right? There is only so many places to hang those air freshners in those small rooms. 🙂 Love reading your posts! Joy says hello and is following your posts with me everyday! Keep working hard!

  10. Hey Mike,
Many in the OR today said to say hello and were glad to hear youre doing better. That includes the staff but also your patients who were having their second eyes done. They just kept talking about you – I dont think they realized I was there. Made my job easier. Carol Ann said her daughter teaches Kindergarten and she had them all hold hands and pray for you. The kids told her God listens to childrens prayers. Winston said to stop being lazy and get up and walk – but thats Winston talking. That song by Daniel Powter “Bad Day” came on during one of my cases and everyone thought it was a good song for you. That would have been a good song on Monday but I think your bad days are getting fewer and fewer. Hope you are having a great day today.

  11. Hi Mike!

I was reading your blog and saw you were listening to a lot of music.

If you are looking for things to listen to besides music, there are some awesome podcasts you can download to your iPod through the Music Store.

I have been walking to work from the Metro now that I live in DC and these podcasts save me on my commutes.

    Check out my favorites:
    1. Radio Lab
    2. This American Life
    3. Stuff you Should Know
    4. Fresh Air

Try downloading an episode or two. It helps pass the time and there are some amazing stories.

    Take care, 🙂
